Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, has launched a fundraising campaign to support a 39-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter who are facing severe financial difficulties following an alleged defilement case involving the girl’s father.
The appeal was launched during Wednesday’s edition of the programme, with listeners donating more than GH¢11,000 within 30 minutes after hearing the family’s story.
The father, who is a police inspector, is alleged to have sexually abused his biological daughter, impregnated her and terminated the pregnancy.
The disturbing allegation came to light during an emotional interview by the victim’s mother on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on May 8, 2028, where she narrated what she described as years of abuse her daughter suffered while living with her father in Garu in the Upper East Region.
According to the mother, her daughter moved in with her father at the age of 10 after he promised to take care of her. She alleged that the abuse began shortly thereafter and continued for years.
The woman further claimed that her daughter, who recently sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), contracted HIV as a result of the abuse.
Speaking ahead of the fundraising exercise, the distraught mother said life had become increasingly difficult since the matter became public. She claimed that the girl’s father, who previously provided support, had stopped doing so following the allegations.
She explained that her work as a security guard does not provide enough income to adequately care for herself and her daughter, leaving them in a vulnerable position.
“I called my daughter’s father to ask him for upkeep money, and he told me that since I decided to make the incident public, he has been interdicted and has no source of income, so I should call his brother, which I did. But the brother insulted me and told me that my daughter should go and feed on social media since that was where the issue was taken to,” she said.
Moved by the family’s plight, host of Dwaso Nsem, Omanhene Kwabena Asante, donated GH¢3,000 towards the cause.
A member of the programme’s production team, Dominic Kissi Yeboah, and Adom FM/TV presenter Abena Opokua Ahwenee, who has been actively advocating for justice in the case, each contributed GH¢1,000.
Several listeners also pledged various amounts to support the mother and daughter, with many expressing the hope that the funds would help the woman establish a business and provide better care for her child.
The team further appealed to the public, philanthropists and corporate organisations to support the initiative and help ease the burden on the family as investigations and legal processes continue.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service in May 2026 announced that the suspect, who is stationed at Mampongteng in the Ashanti region was being interdicted as investigations continue.
