A spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has dismissed claims of division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting that the former flagbearer aspirant remains committed to the party and harbours no resentment.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Kwarteng revealed that Mr Agyapong recently held a private meeting with the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, describing the engagement as cordial and in the supreme interest of the party.

“They met over a week ago. It was a very private and confidential meeting. There is nothing wrong with aspirants meeting after elections, but the way it has been portrayed in the media has created unnecessary speculation,” he explained.

According to him, contrary to public perception, there are no lingering issues between Mr Agyapong and Dr Bawumia, stressing that the businessman-turned-politician has no bitterness toward the NPP.

Mr Kwarteng attributed the ongoing speculation about Mr Agyapong’s alleged disengagement from the party to his recent low profile, noting that he deliberately took time off after the elections to rest and focus on his business.

He added that Mr Agyapong is currently in China on business.

He further addressed reports about a supposed breakaway group known as “The Base,” believed to be made up of some NPP supporters, clarifying that Mr Agyapong is not associated with the group.

“Ken is not part of The Base. There is no indication that he has left the NPP. While he may be aware of concerns from some supporters, his focus now is on his business and the overall interest of the party,” he stated.

Mr Kwarteng, however, urged the NPP leadership to engage with aggrieved members to address their concerns and prevent further disaffection within the party.

He reiterated that Kennedy Agyapong remains loyal to the NPP and has no intention of contributing to any form of division.
