The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has expressed excitement over the establishment of a radio station in Lambussie, describing it as a significant step towards giving the district its own voice.
Speaking during an interview on Lambussie FM during his Thank You Tour of the Upper West region, he said the platform would help shape local narratives and ensure residents receive information that reflects their realities.
“I feel a sense of independence for Lambussie,” he stated, noting that access to locally generated information is critical to community development.
The NDC Chairman disclosed that he had deliberately avoided media interviews for several months as part of a personal policy during his ongoing thank-you tour, but made an exception due to the importance of the occasion.
“I had decided as a policy to avoid all media interviews till I complete the thank-you tour, but I was compelled to break that tradition,” he said.
According to him, the absence of local media in the past meant that residents relied heavily on information from outside the district, which often did not fully represent their perspectives.
“People’s opinions are generally shaped by what they hear. I wasn’t comfortable that our people were being fed with news from outside the district,” he explained.
Mr Asiedu Nketia emphasised that the new radio station would empower the people of Lambussie to tell their own stories and contribute meaningfully to national discourse.
He described the development as a milestone that would enhance communication, promote accountability, and strengthen local identity.
