The Chief Executive Officer of Medeama SC, James Essilfie, has rubbished reports linking the club with a move for Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil.

The Congolese defender has been one of Kotoko’s standout performers in the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, despite the club’s inconsistent form.

With Medeama expected to compete in Africa next season, speculation had grown over a possible switch to the Tarkwa-based side.

However, Essilfie has firmly denied any such approach, insisting the club is satisfied with its current defensive options.

“It’s not true that we have expressed interest in Samba O’Neil, as far as I am concerned, the CEO of the club. If it was in the past, I will admit, but for now, we have not expressed interest in him,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“Samba is a good player, but he doesn’t come close to any of our centre-backs or any of our players.

“He has his qualities as a player, but we are content with what we have at the moment. If we are to improve the squad next season, we will look elsewhere,” Essilfie added.

Medeama currently sit top of the Ghana Premier League table and are also preparing for an FA Cup semi-final clash against Dreams FC.
