The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority) has impounded 40 vehicles at Tema Harbour after uncovering the use of fake and improperly applied Drive from Port (DP) stickers.

The intelligence-led operation revealed that some of the vehicles carried fraudulent DP stickers, while others had genuine stickers that did not correspond with official records.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicles were imported by CFAO, but authorities say the discrepancies likely occurred during the clearing process. The DVLA noted that an agent engaged to clear the vehicles allegedly used illegal methods, leading to the irregularities.

The Authority introduced DP stickers to replace the old aluminium plate system to curb revenue losses. Following the change, issuance rose significantly—from about 2,000 stickers per month to roughly 15,000 in October 2025.

However, a recent decline in sticker issuance at the ports raised concerns and prompted further investigations, culminating in the Tema Harbour operation.

The DVLA says it is collaborating with National Security to probe the matter and clamp down on fraud within the vehicle importation and registration system.

It stressed that maintaining accurate vehicle data is critical for road safety, traceability, and effective transport management, urging importers and stakeholders to comply with regulations.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of Ghana’s vehicle administration system.
