Aduana FC Chief Executive Officer Collins Attah Poku says the club is determined to win the FA Cup in honour of the late Dominic Frimpong.
Frimpong, 20, was pronounced dead after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head during a robbery attack last Sunday along the Ahyiresua Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.
The incident occurred after the Berekum Chelsea team bus was attacked while the side were returning to Berekum following their Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex. The assault forced players and officials to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
Several players reportedly suffered minor injuries, while Frimpong—who was on loan from Aduana FC—was critically injured in the attack and later passed away.
Ahead of Aduana FC’s FA Cup semi-final against Nations FC, Attah Poku said the club is motivated to honour the young forward by lifting the trophy.
“We want to win the MTN FA Cup in honour of the late Dominic Frimpong,” he told MOTV.
“Before his passing, he jokingly sent me a voice note saying that if Aduana FC don’t win the FA Cup, I should sack all the players. We have to do it for him,” Attah Poku added.
Frimpong will be laid to rest on April 29 at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of the gang leader and another suspect in connection with the robbery attack.
