The Assemblies of God Ghana has expressed support for former President John Dramani Mahama following the decision by Lincoln University to withdraw an honorary doctorate conferred on him.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Ernest Birikorang, the church said it was “compelled to rally swiftly” behind Mr. Mahama after the university reportedly withdrew the honour in protest of his stance on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill currently before Parliament.
Assemblies of God Ghana argued that the decision does not dishonour the former president but rather affirms his commitment to his beliefs, describing his position as firm and consistent.
The church further stated that Mr. Mahama’s stance aligns with what it described as biblical principles and encouraged its members, particularly those in public service, to remain steadfast in their values.
It also called on Christians to pray for the nation, urging resistance against practices it said could have negative consequences for society.
