The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced that the government has confiscated nearly a thousand excavators linked to illegal mining activities.
According to Minister Buah, 500 excavators have been seized, with 490 of them currently impounded at the Tema Port.
Speaking in Parliament, he explained that the initiative is aimed at curbing illegal mining and protecting the environment, as part of a broader strategy to regulate and preserve Ghana’s water bodies.
He further stated that importers of heavy equipment will now be required to obtain clearance before bringing in machinery, allowing the government to monitor all excavators operating in the country.
In addition, Minister Buah noted that the Ministry is collaborating with the transport sector to register and track excavators already in use.
