A swift intervention of the fire service and public-spirited persons averted the spread of a fire that started from the kitchen of Global Evangelical International School at Susan-Akyi in the Oforikrom municipality of the Ashanti region.
According to eyewitnesses, thirty minutes after the fire started, a fire tender arrived at the scene to bring the fire under control, with no casualty recorded.

Station officer at Tech Fire Station, Elijah Baidoo, said the proactive public response helped to bring the fire under control.
“Because our team have been educating the public on fire, they started fighting the fire before our intervention, which helped us to totally bring the fire down. “Aside from that, they also called us very early,” he said.

According to him, the officers have gathered all the necessary information from the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.
The Oforikrom Municipal NADMO Director, William Aryene, said preliminary investigations indicate that there was a leakage of a cylinder, which started the fire.

“The early intervention of the fire service saved the situation, and the students are in good condition, and studies have resumed,” he said.
He urged the public to adhere to the fire safety measures to help prevent fire outbreaks.
