Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has dismissed social media claims that it donated GH¢12 million to the Black Stars at the expense of cocoa farmers.
In a public notice, the Board described the allegations as “false, misleading, and without any factual basis.”
COCOBOD clarified that it has never diverted funds intended for cocoa farmer payments to support the senior national football team.
“The claim suggesting COCOBOD has donated GH¢12 million to the Black Stars while neglecting cocoa farmers is false, misleading, and without any factual basis,” the statement said.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to its core mandate of prioritising the welfare of cocoa farmers nationwide. Its responsibilities include prompt payment for cocoa purchases, provision of inputs, extension services, and sustained investment in the cocoa sector.
COCOBOD also urged the public to disregard misinformation and rely only on official communication channels for accurate and verified information.
The clarification comes amid increased public scrutiny over funding for the Black Stars, particularly as concerns have been raised about farmer welfare and payments in the cocoa sector.
