Black Princesses head coach Charles Simpson expressed immense delight after guiding Ghana into the next round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana’s U-20 female side were held to a 2-2 draw in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg in South Africa.

Travelling to Johannesburg for Saturday’s decisive second leg at the Mbombela Stadium, the Black Princesses rose to the occasion.

A crucial second-half strike from Priscilla Mensah proved decisive, sealing qualification and extending Ghana’s impressive run in the competition.

“The mood is unbelievable. You could see a lot of emotions, even in me. Just because the sort of challenges we had in this particular camp were huge,” Simpson said after the game.

“And to come out of that, win here, and qualify for the next round, we are so, so happy,” he added.

Ghana will now face Uganda, who edged out Zambia, in the final qualifying round for a place at the World Cup, scheduled to be held in Poland later this year.

The Black Princesses have featured at every U-20 Women’s World Cup since 2010 and are on the verge of a remarkable eighth consecutive appearance if they overcome Uganda in the final round.
