Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has urged Ghanaians to rally behind newly appointed Carlos Queiroz as he takes charge of the Ghana Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz, 73, was officially unveiled on 13 April 2026 on a short-term contract and is expected to lead Ghana through a demanding group-stage campaign in North America.
The Black Stars, making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
While acknowledging doubts over the limited time available for the Portuguese tactician to make a significant impact, Sannie Daara stressed that national support will be crucial to Ghana’s chances at the tournament.
“I doubt Carlos Queiroz can improve the Black Stars in just three weeks,” he told Joy Sports.
“I have my serious doubts, but as Ghanaians and people who love this country, we must do whatever we can to ensure the nation succeeds. We can do that by giving unwavering support to the team and providing them with whatever they need to succeed. If he succeeds, it is Ghanaians who succeed,” he added.
Queiroz, who is expected in Ghana this week for his official unveiling, brings vast World Cup experience. He previously guided South Africa to their first World Cup qualification in 2002, led Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
He has been tasked with restoring stability to the Black Stars and improving their fortunes on the global stage following early exits in 2014 and 2022.
