The Paramount Chief of the Ntotroso Traditional Council in the Ahafo Region, Barima Twereko Ampem III, has disclosed that efforts are underway to upgrade the Ntotroso College of Nursing and Midwifery into a degree-awarding institution.

Speaking during the school’s 10th anniversary celebration, held under the theme “A Decade of Quality Nursing and Midwifery Education: Resilient Workforce Amid Challenges,” the chief said the traditional council remains committed to ensuring the institution meets all requirements needed for accreditation.

He explained that since its establishment by the chiefs and people of Ntotroso, the college has offered only diploma programmes, including Registered General Nursing (RGN) and Registered Midwifery (RM), over a three-year training period.

According to him, upgrading the institution to degree status would enhance training opportunities and contribute to improving healthcare delivery nationwide.

Barima Twereko Ampem III indicated that investments have been made in infrastructure, logistics and human resources to position the school for approval by the relevant authorities.

“We are optimistic that with the measures we have put in place, the institutions mandated to grant degree status will soon give us the go-ahead so that the college can run degree programmes and further support the health sector,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the school, Augustina Naa Shorme Noi Ayivor, also expressed confidence that the college is close to achieving its goal.

In an interview with Adom News, she said the school’s management, staff and traditional leaders are working closely together to ensure the institution satisfies all regulatory requirements.

She disclosed that discussions have already been held with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), adding that feedback so far has been encouraging.

According to her, the sustained support of the chiefs and continued improvements at the school place the institution in a strong position to secure approval to run degree programmes in the near future.
