Managers of the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) in the Ahafo Region have urged beneficiaries of its scholarship scheme to give back to their communities to support local development.

The call was made in Ntotroso during the maiden NADeF Scholarship Beneficiaries Homecoming event, held under the theme “Connecting the Past, Inspiring the Future.”

Speaking to Adom News, Chairman of the NADeF Board of Trustees, Professor Yaw Ofosu-Kusi, said the foundation has, over the past 16 years, provided scholarships to brilliant but needy students from the 10 host communities where Newmont Gold Ghana operates in the Asutifi North and Tano North districts.

He explained that the homecoming event was organized to bring together beneficiaries—some now working and others still in school—to encourage them to unite and contribute in various ways to the development of their communities.

Professor Ofosu-Kusi added that beneficiaries are expected to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired to support others, particularly younger students at the basic and secondary levels.

Meanwhile, a Senior Lecturer at Sunyani Technical University, Dr. Vida Owusu Prempeh, who was the guest speaker, commended NADeF for supporting the education of about 14,000 beneficiaries in fields such as health, education, and engineering. She noted that the beneficiaries have been adequately sensitized on the importance of networking, staying united, and giving back to society to help accelerate development.
