The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has officially opened a specialised Fire Police “Train the Trainer” course at the Fire Academy and Training School (FATS) in Jamestown, aimed at strengthening discipline and operational efficiency within the Service.

The opening ceremony, held on Monday, April 20, 2026, brought together senior fire officers, personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces Military Police Unit, instructors, participants and invited guests.

The Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, who served as Guest of Honour, declared the course open and reaffirmed management’s commitment to repositioning the Fire Police Unit as a more effective support arm of the Service.

She stressed the growing need to equip Fire Police personnel with modern security and protective skills to support firefighting operations and maintain order at emergency scenes. According to her, the training forms part of broader efforts to enhance professionalism, discipline and safety across the Service.

Also addressing participants, the Commanding Officer of the Ghana Military Police, Jacqueline Dela Galley, commended the collaboration between the two institutions, noting that it would significantly build the capacity of personnel.

She indicated that trainees would receive instruction in key areas including basic policing, intelligence gathering, VIP protection, report writing and professional conduct.

The three-week programme is being facilitated by instructors from the Military Police and is expected to prepare participants to serve as trainers within their respective regions and commands.

The initiative is also aimed at improving the overall readiness of the Fire Police Unit to support emergency operations nationwide.
