The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men suspected to be behind a series of armed robbery attacks in the Bolgatanga municipality and along the Bolgatanga-Walewale highway.

The suspects, identified as Moses Akungoe, popularly known as “Mosbee”, and Jacob Akugri, also known as “Weezy”, were arrested in Kumasi on Friday, May 9, 2026, by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters Operations Unit.

According to police, the arrests followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance operations carried out in Bolgatanga and Walewale.

Preliminary investigations suggest the two suspects were part of a robbery syndicate believed to have been operating across the Upper East and North East regions.

In a statement, the Police said the gang allegedly carried out attacks on roads and within communities, robbing victims of cash, mobile phones and motorbikes, while some of the robbery incidents are also believed to have resulted in deaths.

Investigators further suspect that the gang used AK-47 rifles and pistols during its operations.

Investigations are ongoing as police work to identify and arrest other members of the suspected gang.
