The Chief of Seinchem in the Ahafo Region, Nana Boffour Banin, has made a passionate appeal to the government to help restore the depleted Seinchem Forest Reserve, warning of its adverse effects on residents and the environment.
Speaking to Adom News during a town hall meeting organised by the Asutifi South District Assembly, Nana Banin lamented the destruction caused by illegal logging and encroachment, which have transformed large portions of the once-thriving forest into cocoa farms.
“The destruction of the forest is affecting our climate and threatening livelihoods. We need government support to plant trees in large numbers to restore the reserve. This will also create jobs for our unemployed youth,” he stressed.
In response, the District Chief Executive for Asutifi South, Benjamin Assabil Donkor, acknowledged the concerns and assured residents of plans to address the situation.
“Before my tenure ends, measures will be put in place to tackle these challenges and revamp the forest reserve,” he promised.
