We will do well in Africa next season – Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku

Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku has expressed confidence that the team will rise to the occasion as they prepare for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors secured their place in the continental competition after clinching the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup title, defeating lower-tier side Golden Kick FC in the final. Opoku scored twice to seal the club’s 10th FA Cup triumph.

Speaking to the club’s media team, the former USM Alger and Olympique Club de Khouribga forward emphasized the importance of competing in Africa and assured fans of his readiness to help the team succeed.

“Playing in the CAF Confederation Cup boosts your morale, and it also helps you as a player to develop well,” he said.

“I believe that playing in Africa next season, we as a team will do well, and I will do my best to help my team achieve whatever goals we set.”

Opoku, who recently rejoined Kotoko after his stint abroad, highlighted the wider benefits of participating in continental football, not only for players but also for fan engagement.

“That is the level I want to reach as a player because when you play in Africa, it helps you a lot, and even your market value increases. When you are in town and talk to people, they tell you they have stopped coming to the stadium, but since you have qualified for Africa, they will start coming.

“It is a level that, when you play, will help you. So one way or the other, it is really going to help the players, including myself,” he added.

Kotoko fans will be hoping that Opoku’s return and confidence translate into a strong showing in the CAF Confederation Cup.
