Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Stephen Amoah, has expressed confidence that former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, is the right man to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) next flagbearer.
Dr. Amoah, a member of Mr. Agyapong’s campaign strategy team, described him as the “Joshua” appointed to lead Ghana into its promised land.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he emphasised that Mr. Agyapong has been ordained by God and that his campaign team remains resolute in their mission.
The former Deputy Finance Minister backed his remarks with a biblical reference from 2 Timothy 1:7, which states: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
“He is the Joshua. God has appointed him to take Ghana to our promised land. If the NPP wants him, fine. But if not, there is no need to intimidate or cause fear, because God has not given us the spirit of timidity,” he declared.
“The deceit, lies and manipulation will not take us anywhere. If we want to adopt a Cinderella syndrome—knowing who the shoe fits but keeping him locked away—it is unto us,” he added.
Dr. Amoah’s remarks come in response to the recent public endorsement of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by over 60 NPP MPs, in support of his second presidential bid.
Describing the move as “propaganda,” he accused certain factions within the NPP of pressuring MPs, particularly first-timers, into publicly endorsing Dr. Bawumia.
He urged first-time lawmakers to stand their ground and resist any form of blackmail or intimidation.
