Appoint Karim Zito if he wins double – George Kennedy

-

Asante Kotoko legend George Kennedy has backed interim head coach Abdul Karim Zito, urging the club to confirm him as the permanent manager if he leads the team to a domestic double this season.

Zito took over from Prosper Narteh Ogum on an interim basis midway through the second half of the ongoing season.

Since his appointment, Kotoko have remained unbeaten and have booked a spot in the final of the MTN FA Cup. The Porcupine Warriors are also firmly in the race for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title.

Despite his short time in charge, Zito’s impressive start has caught the attention of many, including Kennedy, who believes the club’s management should stick with him if he delivers silverware.

George Kennedy said:
“It is too early to determine who should be hired as the next coach. If Zito is performing very well and winning all available matches, what criteria will you use to hire someone else as the substantive coach? That cannot happen. So let us hope that Zito continues to perform and wins the league and the FA Cup for Kotoko, then we are through. There will be no need for hiring another coach for Kotoko because Zito gave his all. What we want is results, and the outcomes are that Zito has earned us the double, so what again?”

Kotoko will look to strengthen their league title hopes when they host Dreams FC on Sunday in a crucial Matchday 31 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.
