Clement Nano, a 23-year-old man, has narrated how his dream of becoming an international footballer was cut short by the police during a protest by residents of Odumase-Krobo against Power Distribution Service’ (PDS) mass disconnection exercise.

Talking about his dashed dream on the social discussion segment of Adom FM’s morning show, ‘Y’asem Nie’ Wednesday, the once promising footballer gave a sad account of how things went from great to worse for him.

He said he was scheduled to travel to the United States (US) with seven other local footballers.

“I play for a local team by the name Akro Heroes in Krobo, and after so many years of working so hard, myself and other seven local footballers were scheduled to travel to the US to continue our football career. And as happy as I was, I went to town on that fateful day to get the stuff I will travel with,” he said.

He said he was on his way back home having bought the needed stuff when he was met with demonstrations in the area.

“While returning home I met a demonstration in the area, I made enquiries and found out that the protest was about PDS’ exorbitant electricity bills and mass disconnection exercise, only for the police to start shooting into the midst of the protesters,” he noted.

“When the police started shooting, I tried to take cover and in doing so got shot in the leg. I fell and called for help and was rushed to the hospital,” he recounted.

He noted that although his leg has not been amputated, he is unable to walk properly without a walking stick.
