Former Black Satellites captain Nathaniel Adjei has been recalled to the Ghana squad for the first time in almost a year following an impressive start to the season with French club Lorient.
The 22-year-old centre-back has started all four of Lorient’s Ligue 1 matches this season and played every minute, establishing himself as a key member of the club’s defence.
Adjei began the campaign with a full 90 minutes in Lorient’s goalless draw away to Nice before again completing the match against Troyes.
He then helped Lorient secure a 1-0 victory away to Lens and played the entire game once more in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Toulouse.
His performances have also earned him an average FotMob rating of 7.46 from his four league appearances.
That consistent club form has earned Adjei a return to the Black Stars under head coach Carlos Queiroz for Ghana’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Adjei’s last appearance for Ghana came in a friendly against Mexico in the build-up to the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
He made his senior international debut on 18 November 2024 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Adjei started the match but was substituted after 40 minutes as Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat.
The defender will now hope to add to his international appearances as Ghana begin their Group C campaign with a difficult trip to face reigning African champions Ivory Coast at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on 24 September.
The Black Stars will then host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 27 September before ending the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October.
