In a strategic move to revitalize education and encourage enrollment, the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, Geoffrey Kini, in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly, has donated essential school supplies to over 300 fresh Senior High School (SHS) students.
The donation, which included metal trunks and mattresses, was specifically targeted at students who received placements in second-cycle institutions within the Nkwanta South Municipality.
The initiative serves as a multi-faceted intervention designed to motivate students to remain within the municipality for their secondary education while providing much-needed relief to parents.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the MP expressed concern over a significant decline in school enrollment figures within the area.
He attributed this trend to the protracted conflict that has affected the area, which has led some families to seek educational opportunities elsewhere.
The MP emphasized that the donation of trunks and mattresses is intended to alleviate the financial burden on parents and guardians, many of whom are struggling with the costs associated with the new academic year.
By providing these essential items, the MP and the Assembly hope to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent qualified students from beginning their SHS journey.
Addressing safety concerns, Geoffrey Kini reassured the public that the Municipal Assembly, in coordination with national security agencies, has implemented robust measures to safeguard both students and teachers.
He urged parents to have confidence in the local schools, noting that the environment is being closely monitored to ensure a peaceful and productive academic calendar.
The Headmistress of Kyabobo Girls Senior High School, Elizabeth Zinye Paagah also weighed in on the initiative, encouraging parents to take advantage of the quality facilities available within the municipality.
She highlighted that while the initial admission process was slow, there has been a significant surge in enrollment activities since Thursday morning.
She noted that the schools, especially Kyabobo Girls are well-equipped with the necessary infrastructure to provide top-tier teaching and learning experiences for the students.
Beneficiary parents and students expressed gratitude to the MP and the Assembly, and appealed to other families to enroll their children in schools within Nkwanta South.
