Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has urged the Black Stars to leave their opening defeat behind and focus on reviving their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against The Gambia.
The four-time African champions host the Scorpions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, 29 September, seeking their first points after a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast in Bouake left them at the foot of Group C.
Speaking ahead of the match on Monday, the 73-year-old said dwelling on past results would not help his side as they prepare for a crucial home fixture.
“We don’t win games with the past, but we also don’t lose games in the past with what happened yesterday,” Queiroz said.
“We go for results with the ability and will to win the next game, to be well prepared and beat our opponents. This is about the present and the future.
“The past is important because it gives us memories and the learning process we need to progress.”
The former Portugal, Iran and Egypt coach also brushed aside questions over how long he expects to remain in charge, insisting that football ultimately judges managers by results rather than timelines.
“Football has its own god. The gods of football are results,” he said.
“I can’t answer you how many days, weeks, months or years I will be in the job. Only the gods of football can answer that.”
Kick-off for the game is scheduled at 16:00 GMT.
Queiroz is searching for his first competitive victory since taking over the Black Stars, with the defeat in Bouake increasing the pressure on Ghana’s bid to secure qualification for the 2027 finals.
The Black Stars are hoping to return to the continental tournament after missing out on the previous edition in Morocco, making Tuesday’s encounter an important early opportunity to get their campaign back on track in front of home supporters.
