The right eye of a 35-year-old taxi driver popped out when a city guard hit him with a pavement block at Kaneshie in Accra.
His only crime, Patrick Anim said was preventing them from arresting a colleague taxi driver for wrongful parking.

Narrating his ordeal on Y’asem Nie segment on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Wednesday, the distraught man said on March 8, 2019, the city guards numbering about six pounced on them for disobeying their order.
“I just asked a harmless question and all six of them pounced on us. In an attempt to escape the unbearable beatings, one city guard from behind hit my right eye with a pavement block,” he recounted.
Mr Anim said immediately, he touched his eye and realised it was gone.

“I saw blood oozing out of my eye and immediately went unconscious. My friends told me the city guards quickly run into their vehicle and sped off,” he noted.
The once energetic taxi driver said he is now unemployed due to his inability to drive.
“I have parked my taxi because of my condition. I have been rendered jobless due to the useless city guard,” he bemoaned.

Mr Anim is appealing for support to ensure justice is served as the case is being pursued in court.
Also, his lawyer, Yaw Dankwah, who is handling the case pro bono, vowed to seek justice for his client.
He could not fathom why any human being in his right senses would perpetrate such act.
“These city guards are just causing havoc in the name of enforcing the law. I will seek justice for my client,” Lawyer Dankwah said.
He advised the various trade unions to engage the services of lawyers to defend their members against such incidents.
