New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye has questioned the credibility of the ongoing investigation into the recent cocaine bust, arguing that the security officials who supervised the movement of the consignment may not be best placed to investigate the incident.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Nana B, as he is popularly known, said he had been told it was possible for the cocaine shipment to have passed through a normal scanning point before being diverted through another route and loaded onto the ship.
“Yesterday someone was telling me that with the tonnes of cocaine seized in France, it is possible it was passed through the normal scanning point but ushered through a certain place unto the ship, and it is possible,” he said.
He said the possibility heightened his concerns about President John Mahama’s decision to direct the security heads to investigate the bust and submit their report within two weeks.
“That is why I was worried when President Mahama asked the security agencies to go and investigate the bust and within two weeks bring their report,” he said.
Nana B questioned whether officials who supervised the conveyance of the consignment could produce an impartial report into what happened.
“The very people who supervised this conveyance? What proper report are you expecting from them?” he asked.
According to him, an official who fears that the findings could affect their position may be reluctant to produce a report that implicates them.
“Because someone will be thinking about their job and will not bring a report that will indict them,” he added.
His comments come amid scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding the cocaine shipment and questions about how the consignment passed through the system before it was eventually intercepted.
