King Faisal owner and bankroller Alhaji Karim Grusah has called on Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku and the Black Stars Management Committee to resign following the team’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Grusah described Ghana’s situation as a “shame” after the Black Stars suffered defeats in their opening two Group C matches.
“This is a shame. Kurt Okraku and the Black Stars Management should resign immediately,” Grusah told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.
He also called for government intervention if the GFA leadership and the Black Stars management team refuse to step down voluntarily.
“They are a disgrace. We have lost two matches; the government should sack them all. FIFA cannot sanction us. The government should sack them if they do not resign,” he added.
Ghana’s hopes of returning to the continental tournament suffered an early setback after consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before surrendering a two-goal lead in a 4-2 loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The results have left Ghana without a point from their opening two Group C matches and increased the pressure on coach Carlos Queiroz and his players ahead of the remaining qualifiers.
The Black Stars will have an opportunity to revive their campaign in October when they face Somalia in a double-header at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana are attempting to return to the AFCON after failing to qualify for the 2025 tournament in Morocco, ending a run of more than two decades of consecutive appearances at the competition.
