Ghana’s Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has called for the Black Stars to be disbanded and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dissolved following their 4-2 defeat by The Gambia.
Ghana suffered their second consecutive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after surrendering a two-goal lead at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan put the Black Stars 2-0 ahead, but The Gambia staged a remarkable comeback to claim victory.
The result followed Ghana’s 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast in their opening Group C fixture last Thursday.
Responding to questions on X, formerly known as Twitter, Mr George, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, called for sweeping changes to Ghana’s football administration.
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for two years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse. Cheers,” he wrote.
The consecutive defeats have left Ghana with a difficult task in their bid to qualify for the 2027 AFCON, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The Black Stars will return to competitive action in October when they face Somalia in a double-header.
Ghana are seeking to return to the continental tournament after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
