Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says his resignation would not by itself change the fortunes of Ghana football.
The Portuguese coach was speaking after Ghana suffered a second consecutive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Ghana had appeared to be in control after taking a two-goal lead, but The Gambia fought back to secure all three points and leave the Black Stars without a point from their opening two Group C matches.
Ghana began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké last Thursday.
Queiroz acknowledged that resigning could be viewed as the simplest response following another disappointing result, but said he did not believe his departure would address the wider issues facing Ghana football.
“When results like this happen, the option to resign is the easiest solution,” Queiroz said after the match.
“If you believe that if the coach resigns, you can change the situation of football in Ghana, I will be the first one to resign.
“I don’t have that belief, but that is the decision for the board of the federation [GFA] to analyse and decide.”
The defeat leaves Ghana facing an uphill task to revive their qualification campaign and secure a place at the 2027 tournament.
The Black Stars missed the 2025 AFCON in Morocco after failing to qualify for the finals for the first time in more than two decades.
Ghana will return to qualifying action in October with a double-header against Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
