Members of the University Teachers Association (UTAG), say they do not recognise the Interim Governing Council put constituted by the government.
President of UTAG-KNUST, Professor Eric K. Fokuo on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Friday said the government has taken them for granted by refusing to consider the association in the constitution of the Council.

“UTAG were not consulted on the appointment of IMC for the KNUST. This clearly shows we’re not needed. Government is acting this way because it believes students are more than we Lecturers,” he said.
Government, on Thursday, dissolved the governing council of the university and created a 7-member interim council which is expected to conduct investigations into the protests by students last week.

The new council is expected to carry out its mandate in three months and determine the fate of the Vice-Chancellor. They are also to ensure the university reopens in 14 days.
But Professor Fokuo is incensed that the government’s new council does not include their representative or that of the university’s management.

He said government has no right to dissolve the Governing Council en-bloc but can only withdraw the four government representatives.
Professor Fokuo said his outfit wants the Governing Council restored immediately.
