Queen mother of Worawora in the Biakoye District of the Oti Region, Nana Abena Safoa Awerewa II has appealed to President Akufo-Addo to restore the powers of traditional rulers within the current democratic set up of Ghana.
Nana Abena Safoa II has noted with concern, how some national policies have robbed traditional rulers of their powers, rendering them powerless at the traditional level.

Speaking in an interview with Adomonline.com during the 2019 Akwantutenten festival, she said some laws, for instance, have limited the extent rulers could punish wrongdoers in society.
“We appeal to the president to restore the authority we had in the past to be able to punish offenders in our society. Some of our laws need to be reconsidered because they are gradually diminishing our significance in society,” she said.
“Our parents did not spare the rod to spoil us, something even the Bible even affirms but because you can’t even punish people or correct them when they go wrong,” lamented.
Meanwhile, Barima Dr Nana Owusu Afari, the Nkosuohene for Worawora, recounting the history behind the festival, appealed to Oti Region indigenes to value their culture and traditions.

Dr Stephen Nketiah, a youth leader in the Worawora town also called for the promotion of the Akwantutenten festival and urged the youth of Oti Region to use the festival as a platform to uplift the image and identity of Worawora.
