Narrating the incident in an interview with Adom News, Kankam Boadu, a witness and brother of the deceased said the incident happened when he returned from work.

“The incident happened on Tuesday night while he was standing by his car after returning from work and was inspecting his vehicle. We suddenly saw policemen rushing in our direction and suddenly attacked him for an offence nobody knew of,” he said.

He added: “One of the policemen fell while his rifle fired several shots. One of them suddenly pulled a machete from the pickup and slashed his back while they forcefully dragged him into the car and drove off.”

According to Mr Kankam, calls made to the District Police Command revealed they had no knowledge of any deployment to the area with an assurance from the District to get to the root of the matter only for the news of Mr Ampomah’s death to reach them on Wednesday morning.

The Ashanti Regional Command has summoned the Konongo District Commander and the police officers involved to Kumasi and they are expected to appear before them on Thursday morning.
