The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency) has launched investigations into a viral social media video showing the body of a deceased person being transported on a motorcycle in the Oti Region.

In a statement, the Agency strongly condemned the incident, describing the manner in which the human remains were transported as unprofessional, undignified, and a violation of established public health and death care standards.

According to MoFFA, the handling and transportation of dead bodies must be carried out with utmost respect and in line with approved safety protocols. The Agency stressed that human remains should only be transported using a hearse or a vehicle specifically designated for that purpose.

MoFFA warned that the improper transportation of dead bodies poses serious public health risks, including possible exposure to infectious diseases, environmental contamination, and threats to public safety.

The Agency disclosed that it is currently gathering information on the incident and working with relevant authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the viral footage.

“MoFFA is currently gathering information and collaborating with the appropriate authorities to investigate this incident,” the statement noted.

The Agency further urged funeral service providers, mortuary operators, and the general public to strictly adhere to regulations governing the handling, storage, and transportation of human remains.

MoFFA also called on stakeholders within the death care industry to uphold professionalism, ethical standards, and respect for the dignity of the deceased at all times.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health, promoting professionalism within the funeral and mortuary sector, and safeguarding the dignity of deceased persons across the country.
