Residents of five adjoining farming communities at Dambai in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region are appealing to the government to construct a bridge over the Kegyakaburi river linking the areas.
Residents from Abongo, Tamanja, Pumpei, Yariga No1 and No2 communities are forced to cross the Kegyakaburi river daily to the Municipal capital Dambai, for work and to access markets, a situation they claim endangers their lives.
A visit to the area by Adom News, confirmed that the five communities have been cut- off from socio-economic development.

Schoolchildren have adopted a hand-in-hand technique of crossing the river to maintain steady balance.
The report detailed many of the older children carry the younger ones on their back and chest to enable them reach their various destination.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the schoolchildren revealed apart from the risk of crossing the river daily to school, they are always late to class.
They further underscored the need for the construction of a bridge over the river to enhance the economic development of Dambai.

Meanwhile, some community members lamented that the lack of bridge over the Kegyakaburi River linking the areas was affecting the community’s development as farmers lose their produce after harvesting.
They called on the government to prioritise the construction of a bridge over the river which links to the food-producing communities to open the area for socio-economic development.
