Three protesters of the Economic Fighters League have been arrested by the police for screaming “#DropthatChamber” in Parliament’s public gallery during proceedings on Friday.

The three, identified as Ernesto Yeboah, Convenor of the group, Abeiku Adams and the third person who is yet to be identified, reportedly began chanting just when K.T. Hammond stood up to make his submission on the Floor of Parliament.

They started chanting after the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti region, Mr Hammond justified the controversial plan, insisting the “MPs cannot sit under trees.”

Mr Hammond made the comment during a discussion in Parliament on the new $200 Chamber.

Mr Hammond’s comment provoked the protesters seated in the public gallery who then began chanting “drop that chamber.”

Security personnel quickly moved in to arrest them. They have been detained at the Parliament Police station. Director of Public Affairs in Parliament told reporters, disrupting parliamentary business is illegal.
