New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the New Juaben North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang has said there was no free scholarship for the Ghanaian students who went to study Medicine in Cuba.

The comments of Boateng-Agyemang follow the former president’s comment that “about six years ago, we got scholarships to send some children to Cuba to go and train as doctors. There was something significant that we did when we got the scholarship. We decided to deliberately source girls from Moslem communities for them to go and train as gynaecologists”.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV‘s Badwam show, the NPP chairman said the statements of the former President were false.

He noted that even though he was the chairman of the Scholarship board, nothing of the sought has come to his attention.

“He is ignorant about our educational structure if not, he would have obtained the right facts and I wonder who his advisors are because there was no free scholarship for any of the students. “Tuition, accommodation and others were all funded by the government leaving arrears which have been paid by the Akufo-Addo government,” he said.

He also dismissed claims by the former president that some females from Muslim communities were deliberately selected to specialize in Gynecology.

“None of the students had any speciality because it is not possible to do so after your first seven years from medical school. You need to undergo your horsemanship after which you write an exam to obtain a license, “he added.
