The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh, on Tuesday visited the families of the missing Takoradi girls.
The development comes at a time the families are preparing to offer blood samples to the investigative team validating the authenticity or otherwise of the bodies discovered in recent times.
The purpose of his visit, according to the Director-General of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu, was to sympathise with them and to encourage them to undertake the DNA test.

He said that would help the Police identify the discovered human remains.
ACP Eklu said the IGP’s visit was also to introduce a new liaison officer to communicate with the families.
“So far, the police need direct samples of the families and so the visit by the IGP was to seek the support of the families in order to get the DNA tests done and to ascertain whether indeed the human parts are theirs,” he said on Accra based Neat FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.

ACP Eklu posited that the visit by the delegation, led by the acting IGP to the families of the missing girls, was positive and that they were very satisfied with the IGP’s visit.
He said it would be too early to conclude until investigations are fully done and proven scientifically that the remains are those of the missing Takoradi girls.

Police earlier visited the families on August 3 where the idea of the DNA testing was discussed.
The DNA testing is expected to be completed within 14 days.
