The Municipal Chief Executive of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Musah Superior has directed the Assembly to demolish buildings and ongoing projects sited on waterways in the metropolis.
Musah Superior speaking to the media in Gumbihini Friday July 28, 2017 after touring some affected areas in Tuesday’s floods lamented on the many houses built on the water ways saying they are the cause of the annual flooding in the metropolis.
He said this after Hundreds of residents in the Metropolis were rendered homeless due to heavy downpour Tuesday that swept away properties worth thousands of cedis including livestock.
The rains took away a woman who attempted drive cross the flood at Gariba Lodge on the Tamale-Bolga highway.
Two children have also been confirmed dead after being drowned in the floods.
Mr. Musah Superior said areas like Gumbihini and Asawaba will be the worst affected in the demolishing exercise.
He thus appealed to those who have their houses on the water ways to start relocating before the demolishing starts in six months to come.
He added some residents were compensated to relocate some years ago but they have since declined to move hence his zeal to ensure all structures on water ways are demolished to reduce the incidence of flooding in the area.
He was quick to add that those who were not compensated will however be compensated by the Assembly.
Meanwhile no relieve items for affected victims yet.
