The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has cautioned the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to stop shielding foreigners involved in retail businesses in Ghana.

According to the President of GUTA, Dr Joseph Obeng, the GIS has rendered Ghanaian retailers powerless and has empowered foreigners in the retail business through the issuance of residence permit which now makes foreigners comfortable.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr Joseph Obeng urged the Immigration Service to be dutiful if they want to ensure peace in Ghana.

“The foreigners have taken the laws into their hands and have invaded where they are not supposed to because the immigration service has issued residence permits which they always pull out as evidence of doing legitimate business.

“They are making us insolent and we will appeal to the government to probe and audit the activities of the immigration service because they are making our fight their cocoa season,” he said.
