The management of St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) has declared its intention to pursue legal action following a controversial ruling in the Sharks Quiz quarterfinal contest against Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO), held on March 19, 2026.

In a statement issued on March 21, the Cape Coast-based school expressed disagreement with the Academic Talent Development Programme’s decision to allow a re-run of the tie-breaker question, while also condemning KETASCO’s request to be declared winners of a contest they did not win in open competition.

The statement, signed by Headmaster Rev. Fr. Patrick Godfred Appiah, argued that the disputed answer, “Climax,” does not meet the academic standards of Greek tragedy as outlined in Aristotle’s Poetics, noting that the quiz mistress had originally declared “Peripeteia” as the correct answer.

“Any attempt to manipulate the results of a concluded contest, in which the organisers formally declared St. Augustine’s College winners, poses a grave risk to the credibility and integrity that the Sharks Quiz has built over the years,” the statement said.

The school also raised concerns over procedural irregularities, pointing out that protests should be lodged before final results are declared. “The events that followed this contest represent a clear and serious departure from this long-standing procedural norm,” the statement noted.

St. Augustine’s College emphasised that should the organisers proceed to stage a fresh contest or declare another school as winner, it will seek legal remedies to protect its victory and the integrity of the competition.

“We trust that the Sharks Quiz Academic Board will uphold the rules and the long-term reputation of this esteemed competition,” the statement added, while affirming the school’s commitment to fairness, sportsmanship, and academic excellence.

The development has set the stage for a potential court showdown, making this one of the most contentious episodes in the history of the Sharks Quiz competition.
