Chairman of Ghana’s Parliamentary Sports Committee, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has expressed strong support for the appointment of experienced Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars.
The 73-year-old replaces Otto Addo on a short-term contract as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He is expected in the country shortly for his official unveiling.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Norgbey said Queiroz’s vast international experience makes him a valuable addition to the national team setup.
“He comes to the table with a wealth of experience, and I think his tactical discipline will propel the team. I’m sure even the players will also have the kind of respect for him because this is a coach with an international rating.”
He also commended the Ghana Football Association for what he described as a positive and timely decision in appointing the former Manchester United assistant coach.
“For once, the GFA has taken a decision that will be to the benefit of the Black Stars, and I’m happy for the choice that they have made,” Norgbey added.
Queiroz is expected to officially begin work with the squad next month, starting with an international friendly against Mexico, followed by a final warm-up fixture against Wales on June 2.
Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the World Cup, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
After early exits in both the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, Queiroz has been tasked with steering the Black Stars to a stronger showing on football’s biggest stage.
