Former Black Stars striker Augustine Arhinful has revealed that he once received a mysterious phone call warning him about a planned raid by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) offices.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Arhinful said the call came in 2011 from an unidentified person who claimed that EOCO officials were going to visit the GFA office a week later.
He said the caller asked him to inform former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi to secure any important documents he had before the operation.
“Let me tell you something about how I get information. In 2011, I was sleeping late at night when my phone started ringing. It was an unknown number,” Arhinful said.
“I picked up the call and asked who it was, but the person said his name was not important. He told me, ‘I know you are close to the former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi. Tell him that a week from today, EOCO is coming to the GFA to raid the office. So whatever documentation he has, he should keep them aside,’” he added.
According to Mr. Arhinful, the caller ended the conversation immediately before he could respond.
He said the following day, he met Kwesi Nyantakyi together with some former Black Stars players, where he shared the information with him.

“The next day, Osei Kuffour, Kwame Ayew, Tony Baffoe, and I had a meeting with Kwesi Nyantakyi. When we got there, I told him what the person who called me had said,” he explained.
Mr. Arhinful said he advised Mr Nyantakyi to take the information seriously, adding that he still remembers the day of the meeting.
“I remember it was a Tuesday, and I told him and advised him. Kwesi Nyantakyi then started talking about some things that had happened at the Castle when the presidency was located there,” he said.
The former striker claimed that about a week later, EOCO officials indeed visited and searched the GFA offices.
“Do you know that a week from that day, EOCO actually went to the GFA office and raided the office? Somebody had told me, and I had informed Mr Nyantakyi about it,” he stated.
Mr. Arhinful added that many people are aware of happenings within Ghana football but are reluctant to speak publicly.
“People know what is happening, but they just don’t want to speak the truth,” he said.
