The Apremdo Chief, Nana Egya Kwamina XI, has called for a change in the mindset of Ghanaians and what he described as a “revolution” to rebuild the country and put it on the path of progress.
According to him, national development cannot be achieved without a collective commitment from citizens to change their attitudes and approach towards governance and accountability.
Nana Egya Kwamina XI made the remarks at the Western Regional edition of Adom Brands’ “Democracy Is Not For Sale” forum held at the Takoradi Library.
The forum brought together citizens and key stakeholders to discuss the growing influence of money in Ghana’s democratic process, including vote buying, campaign financing, the rising cost of political participation and illicit funding in elections.
The chief stressed the need for Ghanaians to take responsibility for the country’s future by embracing a new way of thinking.
“We need to rebuild the country again. We need revolution. If not, the country won’t work. We all need to change our mindset for Ghana to prosper,” he said.
His comments come amid discussions at the forum on the impact of vote buying and other practices that weaken democratic accountability.
The Apremdo Chief has previously called on citizens to reject inducements during elections and demand development and accountability from political leaders.
The “Democracy Is Not For Sale” forum seeks to create awareness about the dangers of vote buying and promote a more accountable and issue-based democratic culture in Ghana.
