President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government will roll out the Free Primary Healthcare Programme on April 15, 2026.
The initiative is designed to remove cost barriers to basic healthcare services, improve access at the community level, and reinforce preventive healthcare delivery across the country.
Speaking during a meeting with civil society organisations at Jubilee House on March 30, the President underscored the importance of collaboration in ensuring the programme’s effectiveness.
“I count on CSOs to support public education, assist in monitoring implementation, and provide feedback to ensure this programme achieves real impact,” he said.
Government believes the programme will enhance access to essential healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations, while contributing to better health outcomes nationwide.
The launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme represents one of the most significant expansions of Ghana’s social safety net in decades, aligning with President Mahama’s vision of a country where healthcare is a right, not a privilege.
