Amidst the glitz and glamour of the ‘Doek and Slay’ event held at Zimbabwe’s National Sports Stadium B Arena, a distressing aftermath unfolded, leaving the usually vibrant venue tarnished by a shocking scene.
Reports emerged that following the event, portions of the stadium were transformed into an unsanitary public space, scattered with human waste and discarded tissues.
Dr. Tinashe Gede, a regular jogger at the National Sports Stadium B Arena, was left appalled after the recent ‘Doek and Slay’ show turned the arena into an unsightly public toilet, H-Metro reveals.
This shocking aftermath has sparked concern over health risks for visitors and athletes, prompting Dr. Gede to pen a letter of complaint to both the Sports and Recreation Commission and the Environmental Management Agency.
Expressing his distress as a health professional and concerned citizen, Dr. Gede highlighted the disturbing scene he encountered after arriving at the stadium with friends and children, expecting their usual safe and clean jogging space. Instead, they were met with a distressing sight.
“I am writing to you as a health professional and very distressed citizen to seek your urgent intervention regarding the Doek and Slay show held at the stadium….What we witnessed is beyond what words can describe, one would have to see it to fully comprehend it. The usually clean track and its surroundings had become a scene of hell. There were dirty tissues scattered, human waste all over the place, it was unbearable.”
Dr. Gede expressed grave concerns about the potential health hazards posed by such unsanitary conditions, particularly given reports of cholera cases in various parts of the country.
“We do not know if the event was allowed to take place without proper ablution facilities. We are concerned about this considering that we have some cases of cholera being recorded in some parts of the country,”Dr. Gede voiced his worry.
Dr. Gede emphasized the importance of event organizers prioritizing public health over financial gain.
“Let the event organisers consider people’s health first rather than focusing on getting money and endangering people’s lives.”
The ‘Doek and Slay’ events, known for their trendy appeal, have unfortunately been marred by various unsavory incidents, including altercations among attendees.
