Security personnel have been deployed to the EOCO headquarters in Accra following a protest by supporters of former IMCCoD Executive Secretary Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who are demanding his immediate release.

The deployment followed a protest by sympathisers of Mr Aboagye after his arrest by EOCO over alleged financial and procurement irregularities involving about GH¢55 million in public funds.

Reports from the scene indicate that about 10 military personnel and National Security operatives arrived at the EOCO headquarters and took strategic positions as tensions rose among the protesters.

The security officers directed demonstrators who had gathered along the roadside to move away from the street to allow the free movement of vehicles.

A police water cannon was also stationed at the premises as authorities worked to maintain calm and ensure public safety.

The protesters, who remained in the area, continued to demand the immediate release of Mr Aboagye, while his lawyers engaged EOCO officials over his detention.

Mr Aboagye was arrested as part of investigations into alleged financial and procurement breaches at the IMCCoD Secretariat.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, EOCO said Mr Aboagye, together with former IMCCoD Accountant Gerald Appiah and other unnamed persons, are being investigated over suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds amounting to approximately GH¢55 million.

The anti-graft agency said the investigation was triggered by a petition from the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD following a forensic audit conducted on the Secretariat covering the period from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.

EOCO said the alleged offences under investigation include conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the State, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences and money laundering.

The Office also disclosed that Mr Appiah has voluntarily started refunding some funds linked to the alleged offences, but stressed that the repayments do not conclude the investigations or absolve any suspect of possible criminal liability.

Meanwhile, lawyers for Mr Aboagye are continuing engagements with EOCO as his supporters maintain calls for his release.
