The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has joined the chiefs and people of Edina for the grand climax of the Edina Bakatue Festival 2026 in Elmina.

The Ga Monarch, accompanied by a distinguished entourage, was warmly received by Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, Edinamanhene, and the people of Edina as they celebrated the historic festival, which marks the symbolic opening of the lagoon and the beginning of a new fishing season.

As part of the royal welcome ceremony led by the Central Regional House of Chiefs, traditional rites were performed, including the pouring of libation to invoke blessings and seek a peaceful and fruitful visit.

The visit also highlighted the longstanding cultural ties between the Ga State and the people of the Central Region, with both traditional areas celebrating unity, friendship and shared heritage.

To commemorate the occasion, a ceremonial tree was planted as a symbol of the strengthened relationship between the two traditional areas and their commitment to preserving Ghana’s cultural and natural heritage.

The Edina Bakatue Festival continues to serve as a major cultural celebration, bringing together chiefs, dignitaries and visitors to honour the traditions, history and identity of the people of Elmina.
