Film personalities who participated in the second day of the National General Clean-Up Exercise have been commended for throwing their weight behind government’s sanitation campaign.

The actors, filmmakers and creative industry stakeholders joined the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to clean parts of the Central Business District as part of efforts to restore communities affected by the recent floods.

The exercise, organised in collaboration with the National Film Authority (NFA) and the Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA), brought together some of the country’s celebrated film personalities, who swept streets, collected refuse and cleared drains around the Agbogbloshie Market.

Among those who participated were Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, Kafui Danku-Pitcher, REFFA Chief Executive Officer, Selassie Ibrahim, veteran actor Adjetey Anang, actresses Roselyn Ngissah and Irene Opare (Clean Mama), alongside other stakeholders from the creative industry.

Their involvement drew commendation from the Mayor, who described the participation of the creative industry as a significant boost to the national sanitation campaign.

He noted that public figures play an influential role in shaping public attitudes and said their willingness to lead by example would encourage more Ghanaians to embrace environmental cleanliness.

The Mayor also reiterated the need for strict enforcement of sanitation and decongestion regulations to ensure that areas cleared during the exercise remain clean.

He stressed that the Assembly would continue to enforce sanitation by-laws and sanction individuals who dump refuse indiscriminately or return to unauthorised trading spaces.

Also commending the participants, Selassie Ibrahim said the exercise demonstrated that the creative industry remains committed to national development and is ready to support initiatives that improve the lives of Ghanaians.

Kafui Danku-Pitcher encouraged creatives to continue lending their voices and influence to national causes, noting that sanitation is a shared responsibility that requires the support of every Ghanaian.

The participation of the film personalities formed part of the nationwide two-day clean-up campaign organised by government following the June 29 floods, which left several communities inundated and heightened concerns over sanitation and public health.
