Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Germany to unite behind the party’s newly elected national executives and work collectively towards victory in the 2028 general elections.
He made the call during the NPP Germany Branch’s Thanksgiving Service and Unity Dinner, held from October 9 to 10, 2026, in Frankfurt and Hannover.
The two-day event began with an Islamic prayer session in Frankfurt on Friday, October 9, and ended with a Christian worship service and unity dinner in Hannover on Saturday, October 10.
Addressing party members at the gathering, Mr Awuku said unity and collaboration among the party’s structures were essential to strengthening its organisation and advancing the presidential ambitions of its candidate for the 2028 elections.
He described his visit as that of a “John the Baptist”, saying it was intended to prepare the ground for an anticipated engagement between the Germany branch and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on November 21, 2026.
Dr Bawumia is expected to visit Germany at the invitation of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and interact with party members in the diaspora.
Mr Awuku stressed the importance of external branches in the party’s efforts to regain power, urging members to put past disagreements behind them and support the new leadership.
He reminded members that the party belonged to everyone who contributed to its growth and called for a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation.
Addressing the branch chairman, Dr Nana Benyin Enninful, he said leadership must be exercised with humility, respect and selflessness.
“A mandate is a privilege, not a licence to disregard others; trust must be earned through service,” he said.
He added that leaders who earned the confidence of their members strengthened their positions, while those who lost that trust weakened their leadership.
Drawing on his experience as a party organiser, Mr Awuku encouraged the branch executives to lead responsibly and recognise the contributions of all members.
He used the proverb, “It is the feathers that make the bird beautiful,” to illustrate the importance of collective participation in building a strong and influential party branch.
Turning to national politics, the Akuapem North MP acknowledged the challenges facing the NPP’s 87 opposition Members of Parliament but said they would remain committed to advocating what they consider to be in Ghana’s best interest.
He criticised the government’s performance in sectors including education, healthcare, sports and industry, raising concerns about the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy and reports that more than 50,000 Junior High School graduates had not secured placement.
Mr Awuku also urged Ghanaians at home and abroad to remain actively engaged in the political process, encouraging diaspora members to discuss the NPP’s vision with their families ahead of the 2028 elections.
He called on the Germany branch to rebuild its strength, learn from past setbacks and pursue its political objectives with discipline and renewed commitment.
“Unity is not a slogan; it is the work members do together,” he said, adding that a branch became stronger when leaders served with humility and members contributed actively.
Other party officials and invited guests also addressed the gathering, appealing to members to support the NPP and strengthen its structures.
Those present included New Juaben South MP Michael O. Baafi, NPP National Council of Elders member Eileen Mary Posch-Oduro, Mündenheim Mayor Raymond Höptner, NPP Germany Branch Chairman Dr Nana B. Enninful and Hannover Chapter Chairman Bright Otchere.
The Thanksgiving Service and Unity Dinner formed part of the branch’s efforts to promote internal cohesion and mobilise support for the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
