A group of gun-wielding men have attacked and robbed a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor at Walewale in the North East Region in broad daylight.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at about 2 p.m., raising concerns among residents over the safety of mobile money vendors and other businesses in the area.

According to residents, the incident began when a man believed to be a Fulbe approached the vendor to conduct a money transfer.

He reportedly handed over cash to the vendor, and the transaction was underway when a group of armed men suddenly appeared at the scene.

The suspects allegedly fired several gunshots, sending residents and passers-by scrambling for safety.

Amid the confusion, the attackers reportedly seized the vendor’s money bag containing cash before fleeing the scene.

The suspects are also said to have taken the motorcycle belonging to the man who had gone to the vendor to conduct the transaction.

Residents said the loss of the motorcycle was particularly painful for its owner, who had reportedly purchased it only a day before the robbery.

The attack, which occurred in the afternoon when the area was busy with normal commercial activities, has heightened concerns about security in Walewale.

Some residents have alleged that the suspected robbers were Fulani. However, the claim has not been independently verified, and the identities and backgrounds of the suspects remain unknown.
